Sonneteer Morpheus Server Debuts at The Consumer Electronics Show In Las Vegas January 2010

It rips, it stores, it shows up on the Morpheus Music Centre and all while you are making a cup of tea! all in glorious WAV or FLAC and you can have it in MP3 if you will. Naturally, Sonneteer would prefer you to store everything in an uncompressed format to enjoy playing it back through the Morpheus in all its glory.

The Morpheus Server, as it will be known, will be officially launched at CES this January as Sonneteer will be showing between the 7th and 10th at the Venetian Hotel, Suite 29-310. The set up will be resembling that of a normal home with a living room and a dining area both with a Morpheus Music Centre installed and a Server neatly places to, ehem, serve them both.

Sonneteer will also have an iPod Touch handy to demonstrate how any number of their Music Centres and Servers can be controlled from such a device. It also works with the iPhone. All you need is to download the Plug Player application for a minimal cost (£2.99 in the UK).

Album art is displayed and play lists set as music in different parts of the house can be set and adjusted whilst sitting on the sofa and sipping that, aforementioned, cup of tea.

We promise a few more details very shortly as well as pictures and news from the show itself.

For more information and some high resolution images please got to the Press release www.sonneteer.co.uk/press_release_server.htm

CES - Sonneteer play footsie with Penaudio at the Venetian Las Vegas

The annual pilgrimage to CES takes place again this January and as all the major players in the Consumer Electronics Industry squeeze into buses, trains and planes, Sonneteer too take to the skys.

Showing off at the Venetian Hotel suite 29-310 from January 7th through to the 10th Sonneteer will have set up the mock renaissance room to look like a typical apartment with a luxury home entertainment system gracing it's living and dinning room areas.

The designers, Remo Casadei and Haider Bahrani will be on hand to take questions, demonstrate the performance and even share the Las Vegas hospitality. The Sonneteer Morpheus will be on show and their recently announced range of colours will be vividly on display. New will be the eagerly anticipated Morpheus Server which will be announced properly on these news pages shortly as the razzmatazz of the show is in full voice.

Sharing the stage with Sonneteer this year will be Penaudio who are very much partners in the industry as they often share design expertise, marketing platforms and the odd vodka.

Penaudio themselves will be launching the next generation of their Ambient range as they adopt a higher end stance akin to their sister range, the famed Classic Penaudios. For more goto www.penaudio.fi

Shown here are the Chronos loudspeaker which are available in a range of colours and wood finishes. The designer, Sami Pentilla voiced these using Sonneteer amplifiers such as the Alabaster and the Orton. Both of which grace Panaudio mansions.

"Customers can now enjoy a system from both Sonneteer and Penaudio and have the whole thing delivered in the colour of their choice" said Haider Bahrani in conversation with our editor. He was also reminded by Remo[Casadei] that "If customers have any interesting requirements then we can sit down with them and see how we can best meet their needs". He was, of course, referring to the numerous colour possibilities on tap for the products.

CES - Show report: As CES 2010 comes to an end we report back

CES: Las Vegas - The morning of the 11th of January, Las Vegas hosted late breakfast and check out times for 10s of thousands of Engineers, sales reps and marketing folk as the 2010 CES show flies off in to the distant sun.

CES this year was dominated by news of 3DTV and ebook readers whilst nearly every journalist jumped on to these band wagons the rest of the show's exhibits were lost or should I say hidden by the fog of it all. The best of the show is generally away from the 'flash in the pan' media frenzy and often a better guide to what will change our lives over the next few years.

What caught my eye, were things like the Adidas miCoach, a device to aide runners and joggers to measure their performance, and the prevelance of internet connected devices. Internet radio going in to cars, as announced by Ford, could be the sounding of the last bell for DAB for instance.

Of course the high end audio area, at the Venetian Towers is of Particular interest to us and, as we have already reported, Sonneteer, the British luxury music systems maker, were true to form in bringing new ideas to the show with their ultra quiet Morpheus Server, to match their Morpheus Music Centre. Also showing off that their products will be available in a wide range of colours to special order. The server was shown both in black and a sumptuous Burgundy, red.

Needless to say, Sonneteer, though at the luxury end of the home entertainment electronics market have been internet connected for quite sometime now.

Penaudio, the high end luxury loudspeaker manufacturer from Finland were accompanying Sonneteer this year with the launch of their Ambient range of speakers in its Series 2 form. As one enters the show suite, one finds it laid out as a typical home with a dining room area in the upper level and a living room area below over looking the Las Vegas Strip. Two systems were on display both being served by a Sonneteer Morpheus server and a music Centre driving a pair of Serenades from The Penaudio Classic range in the living area and a pair of Red Chronos from the Ambient in the dining area. The Penaudio Ambient range, as mentioned, has been tweaked up market by using better drive units and a dusting of Sami Pentilla (their chief designer and founder) magic. These will be available in three standard colour, but much like the Sonneteer range, the customer can request other colours which will be available at a premium to the standard price.

Not neglecting their analogue roots, Sonneteer were also demonstrating the Sedley Phono stage which was on show in one of their USA distributor, May Audio's eight show rooms at CES where is was singing merrily to the tune of a Roksan Turntable and a London Decca Cartridge and using Gut Wire cables. The Sedley, now globally renowned for its musical abilities and unmatched flexibility is also available with a USB connection. We have linked to a couple of recent reviews in our pages in the past from UHF and Audio Audition.

Back home and catching up on sleep, we look forward to 2010 with optimism. Roll on CES 2011.

Vintage Rock want Sonneteer Morpheus in their living room

"Sonneteer director Haider Bahrani showed us the Morpheus, which we imagined would look nice in our living room." This was the comment Vintage Rock came up with about the Sonneteer Morpheus Server and Music Centre. They were reporting back on the CES show at which they popped into the Sonneteer and Penaudio Suite at the Venetian Hotel.

They saw a number of systems attempting to gain traction in this new age of high fidelity. The Sonneteer Morpheus system to them was, well let's just let you read what they said: "The Morpheus from Sonneteer was the sleekest and most discreet. It stores three terabytes of tunes, and like the others, will rip your CDs while you “go make a cup of tea.” You can even control it, like most of the other music servers, with your iPhone[or iPod Touch]."
Sonneteer, Shows and Buses

We wait for shows all year and suddenly they are happening everywhere. Sonneteer have as good as been on a world tour in the last couple of weeks and it looks to be going on through the spring.

The Audio Festa in Nagoya, Japan hosted Sonneteer represented by Allegro and their head man Kyoji Arai. He had the Sonneteer Morpheus Music Centre and Server on show as well as the Sedley phono stage both of which have had recent award success in the land of the rising Sun.

Sonneteer have also recently been exposed or shown off, should we say, at Axpona in Jacksonville Florida. May Audio Marketing of New York state with Nizar Akhrass at its helm have been faithfully preaching the virtues of hi-fi utopia to the masses for more than 30 years now. The Sonneteer gospel has been a strong component of their sermons for many a year now. They too see the Sonneteer Morpheus Music centre and Server as the guiding light on the path to aural paradise for all music lovers.

Down by the Riverside in the Netherlands with Sonneteer

Sonneteer, already popular with the Dutch is now in the good hands of Riverside Audio for the Benelux market. A marketing campaign followed by reviews kicked off early in the new year and new dealers are already taking on stock and demonstrating products. The people behind Riverside have been long standing fans of Sonneteer and welcome the chance to take it to a broader audience whilst maintaining and bettering the standards of service Sonneteer customers have come to expect. The Sonneteer guys will be popping over from time to time to lend support, pick up some cheese(Haider is partial to a bit of Guada) and enjoy the great hospitality always extended to them when over there.

We will be bringing you translations and originals of all the reviews as they are made available to us. The grape vines are twittering that The Morpheus Music Centre has been well received by one of their better hi-fi publications. More soon.

Haiderway and diSegno Blog on the Sonneteer Server: We take a peek

The news pages and blogs have all had their say. Even we’ve had a word or two. Time to see what the boys behind the products have been spilling from their minds. You can access their blogs from the column opposite.
Haiderway on having the Morpheus Server round for Christmas:

“When we got back,[from Christmas in North Yorkshire] Vicky bought me a copy of Tori Amos’ Midwinter Graces CD……
…Got home, switched the server on and popped the CD in. Oh, I have to say the server is so quiet, it makes my Buffalo Linkstation sound like a vacuum cleaner!Where was I? Oh yes; as the CD was being consumed by the server, I popped down stairs and switched on my Morpheus music centre and then My iPod Touch which has the Plug Player installed (about £3 from Apps store). All this took about 3 to 4 minutes.

As you can see in the picture, by the music centre was switched on in our living room I was able to start playing the (ripped and stored) CD from the Server.
The Morpheus music centre was singing through my loudspeakers and I had full control via the iPod Touch. Oh I made cup of tea at the same time and my other hand was holding it! yes, I hear some of you shouting, I should have left it brew for longer to get that fuller flavour.” More Haiderway

A little bit technical, as Remo often likes to be [from diSegno]:

“Now you hear it! has been our slogan for the longest time but not this time for this bad boy! This unit has to be ultra quiet itself and also vibration free so it would not cause noise to its surroundings. So the first thing was to get rid of the need of fans in the unit. All the main components, power supply unit etc. must also be fanless versions so they can operate indefinitely without needing a fan to cool it… sounds simple until you realise that they are like hen’s teeth to find! Only the latest generations of components are thinking along that way to save power and be silent!

Vibration elimination was a bit more complicated! We have 2 fast hard disk drives inside which whirls, crackles, clicks and vibrates like hell, so the way they are mounted has to be carefully looked into. Having been into cars and our office situated not far from a Lexus dealer, I have looked into ways cars have used to reduce vibration, centrifugal or torque issues when mounting their engines! After some experimentation, the hard drives inside the Morpheus are now mounted on 8 rubber damper mountings, selected by sampling several shores and numbers used before deciding on the best combination. The drives themselves are coupled in a way that their individual vibrations cancels each other, inspired by silent shafts used in car engines, and the final result was rather spectacular!” Oh he does get excited talking about cars. Oh please don’t start him off sir! More diSegno…

Sound Technology delivery systems, made simple by Sonneteer

As the world around us shouts into the noise of new this and new that Sonneteer quietly makes its way into living rooms around the globe with new technology that serves the modern day needs. Quietly being the operative term here as their Music Server barely makes its presence felt beyond its engraved aluminium exterior and the fact the Morpheus Music Centre (also by Sonneteer) is playing the high quality tunes stored on it. As they both, effortlessly, grace the household, they elegantly slip into their surroundings as if it was always home.

Sonneteer create heat wave in Montreal

Sonneteer will be showing at the Son & Image show in Montreal March 25th to 28th. BA strikes allowing Sonneteer's Haider Bahrani will be on hand to talk about the Sonneteer Morpheus system which now comprises of the Music Centre and the Server which was previewed at the CES show in Las Vegas in January.

The production model will have its full début at the Canadian show at which Sonneteer will be hosted by their Canadian representatives Liberty Trading and their glorious leader, Nabil Akhrass.

For the second time this month Sonneteer will be on show with Penaudio loudspeakers. Penaudio will be introducing their Series 2 Ambient lineto Canada as well as the New Sara which, in the words of Sami Penttila, is a 'baby Serenade'. Oh and we love the Serenade. We have already heard great things about this speaker from Riverside Audio in the Netherlands. More on the Netherlands show soon.

The Sonneteer Morpheus Server is shipping now and is available in a range of colours. The word from the Sonneteer stables is that Ruby Red is slowly becoming a favourite as the orders pile up and also that at least one has been ordered in the colours of a local London football team! As you can see from the sneak peek photo we got our hands on, the Server logo and markings are hand engraved onto the aluminium before bright colour anodised.

The Sonneteer Classics will also be on show with the Sedley USB headlining on the second main performance stage at this festival of sound.

We promise you more as the show progresses.

Sonneteer goes Hydro power with new remote.

H2 Remote
Sonneteer goes even greener with generation 2 Morpheus remote.
Not happy with the original Morpheus remote with Lithium-Polymer battery that only requires topping up once a year, the brainiacs at Sonneteer have now gone even further with their generation 2 remote, which requires topping up, as an average, 4 times a year… Hmmm… but isn’t that 4 times more energy required? Well if you look at the picture of the prototype carefully you will notice that Sonneteer have taken the true meaning of “topping up” as the generation 2 remote only requires topping up with water… hence the name H2 Remote.

Unlike some previous attempts of using water to power electronics by means of electrolysis, the new Sonneteer Morpheus remote uses a nano hydrogen fuel cell made only possible in colaboration with Precision Micro Limited, UK’s leading electro-chemical etching specialist in fuel cell hardware. The new fuel cell mesh is now at molecular level producing previously unattainable efficiency from only 1ml of water.
Although only in prototype form, enginners at Sonneteer believes the remote will hopefully be in production just before summer, in time for the water hose ban UK suffers regularly between July and September. Even if you are out of water, the remote can be powered with other forms of liquid such as sweat or tears, so play that emotional love song and get recharged!
Retail price are not yet confirmed but from early indication the remote will be avaiable as an option at £1350- including a 99ml bottle of de-ionised water (enough to refill the remote for about 25 years) and just small enough to carry onboard a plane under the current aviation laws.
For hotter countries a slighty longer version will be available with extra water carrying capacity, code named the “Camote”.

High End Munich:Day 1 Sonneteer colours up the trade.

Sonneteer, our very own Luxury music systems maker has been showing off the Morpheus Music Centre and Server at the High End Society Show in Munich, Germany.

Day one was for the trade delegates in the peace and quiet away from the masses. Cognac and Cigars were far from present, however, and pleasure noises were a plenty afore the Sonneteer stand where Haider Bahrani was there to sing the Surrey based luxury brands’ song.

As mentioned, the Morpheus Server, in hand engraved and red anodised aluminium, is on show to join its sibling the Morpheus Music centre.

We also understand that there is a sneak preview of the Bard Generation 4. We will bring you confirmation of that as and when we get it. Word is, however, that it was shown tied to a wi-fi router antenna and was still demonstrated to work perfectly as was the wi-fi router itself. Spectacular news indeed, if true.

Days:2,3 & 4, High End Show Munich 2010

Our roving reporter has just managed to send this in as the city of Munich seems to have been far too hospitable and the famous Bavarian beer seemingly living up to its reputation.

Days 2, 3 and 4 were open to the public and were definitely a great deal more lively than the first trade day. Although mostly locals show goers were seen to come from all over the globe to what has become the de facto audiophile show in Europe. Trade visitors were also a plenty on these days and in this respect the High End Munich is akin to CES Las Vegas, the worlds largest Consumer electronics, trade only show, where high end Audio people gather to see and be seen every January.

The Sonneteer booth was one of the busiest on the show floor with the array of colour handsets and the beautifully designed Morpheus Music Centre seducing many an eye.

The Sonneteer Morpheus music Centre has recently taken up a new residency at Harrods in Londons knightsbridge. This time it’s wall mounted to welcome all visitors to the AV lounge. It seems the new, Qatari, landlords favour this option to show off the luxury unit in its best light.

The Morpheus, of course, can also be mounted upright or laid, back down on a side board or table as well as on a standard, Vesa 100, wall bracket as shown.

Sonneteer Morpheus Music Server. 3TB and in Multi colour. Hand crafted in Britain.

PRESS RELEASE
2010
No embargo

British luxury brand Sonneteer Unveil their ripping Music Server to marry with Morpheus Music Centre, launched at CES Las Vegas January 2010, now available and shipping in multi colour.

Named the Morpheus Music Server, joins the Morpheus Music Centre and made in the UK by Sonneteer, the British luxury music systems brand. First launched at Las Vegas CES (Consumer Electronics Show) this January the Sonneteer Morpheus Music Server comes hot on the heels of Sonneteer announcing that their entire range will be available in a range of colours. The Server will be available at the same price whichever of the new colours you want it in. The rest of the range will be available to ‘special order’ at a premium to the standard Black and Silver. The Sonneteer range will be available in a range of 12 colours to match customer’s particular tastes. Sonneteer’s Haider Bahrani also said that,” if a customer has a particular request then we are happy to spend some time with them to fully meet their needs.”

The Product

The Morpheus Music Server rips, stores and sits quietly in the corner whilst all the Morpheus Music centres in the home pull the music to play in the particular room which they reside. So in plane terms, the user can slip their CD through the slot on the front and go make a cup of tea. The Morpheus Server, in the mean time, will be copying the contents of the CD to its hard drive storage (all three terra bites of it), cataloguing it with Album name, Artist, song titles etc. and making it ready for the Morpheus Music Centres to see. All one needs to do, while still sipping the cup of tea, is to select the music on the Music Centre and press play, as one would with any other hi-fi. If you have more than one Morpheus in the house then they too can feed off the server for music.

Sonneteer, in developing the new Server have adopted all techniques known and developed a few of their own to make sure the unit is as quiet as can be and as easy to use, in tandem with the Morpheus Music Centre, as is possible. The Morpheus Server also has a number of neat tricks under its sleeve. To make up its three terra bites , for example, it employs two drives and they are set up, out of the box, the mirror each other. So should one of them fail at any time, the other will have the users music stored safe and sound.

Sonneteer products

Already renowned amongst aficionados, Sonneteer make, modern and traditional music systems for the luxury goods market. Sound quality specialists, Sonneteer are well known for adopting cutting edge technology whilst maintaining the ethos traditional high end, British hi-fi.
Sonneteer entered the luxury lifestyle market with Morpheus in 2009 which was recently given the accolade of an Audio Excellence Award from Japan(for 2010). Their range of esoteric, hi-fi separates have been favourites amongst music lovers for years, particularly their Campion and Alabaster amplifiers and the Sedley phono stage (sits between a record player and a music system) which itself is a former recipient of the Japanese award amongst many others.

HiFi Review of Hong Kong love faithful Morpheus from British Sonneteer

“The Morpheus Music Centre [from Sonneteer] will move you from the very first instant. This is not just a high technology laden piece of equipment, but clearly one created to bring music to life.” As translated by our in house Chinese speaking gentleman, Remo Casadei and as published in issue 290 of HiFi Review from Hong Kong. They went on to say, ” If you like delicate detail, faithfully reproduced combined with ideal musicality then I can say the British made Sonneteer Morpheus will not disappoint one bit. In fact it will bring you unexpected joy”.

From these snippets and many others like this that proclaim the Sonneteer’s “high end hi-fi level of performance” and “Premium sound quality” we can safely say that the reviewer, Winson Ng, was taken with the it. We wish to thank our partners, East Group in Hong Kong for arranging and forwarding the review.
